Do they have all the relevant certification and licenses to recruit from that country? For example, we are registered with the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to ensure we are a licensed Recruitment Agent.
Do a background check on the Recruitment Agency. Get a reference from a past client as well as a candidates that’s already in Australia. This will give you a good feel for the character of the agency.
Know the full process step-by-step. Your Agency should be asking you to set up 'Accreditation' for your company. If not, you should ask why not.
Demand proof of skills. Don’t rely on a candidate’s CV alone. Make sure you get an independent skills check for your chosen candidate and verify this against the agency.
To ensure you are happy with the recruitment agency you can always opt to visit their offices in person. If you intend to travel to their country of origin make sure you have all the required certificates. For example, in the Philippines a Special Recruitment Authority Certificate (SRA) is required and without this you may be recruiting illegally, which is a serious breach of local laws.
Know the expected timeframe for each stage of the recruitment process and demand regular updates from your Agency. From selection to TRA, visa lodgement, and deployment it can be a lengthy process - make sure you don’t get any nasty surprises.
You should expect your chosen candidate will stay with your business for many years. Confirm that the agency will guarantee your Candidate for at least 12 months.
Verify all fees and charges. Don’t pay for anything until you are comfortable with the process and you have selected your candidate.
Your Candidate will most likely need a Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) assessment. Make sure you understand what’s in the TRA and that your candidate can pass the assessment.
Make sure the candidate is not paying for their Australian Visa, this is not allowed by the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
Following the above steps will ensure that the international recruitment agency you choose is credible, reliable and can secure your business with top talent in no time.
