Resume Tips for Filipinos: How to Write a Great Resume for Jobs in Australia

KC Ocampo |

Ayos na ba ang resume mo, ka-Cirrus?

When applying for jobs abroad, especially in competitive destinations like Australia, your resume becomes more than just a list of qualifications. It is your personal marketing tool, the very first impression you give to an employer.

A strong resume doesn’t just show what you’ve done; it demonstrates who you are as a worker, what value you bring, and why you stand out from hundreds of other applicants.

To help you get started, here are the key elements that every great resume should have:

Name and Contact Details

Make sure your first and last name are clearly displayed at the top of your resume. Include updated contact details such as your email address, mobile number, and current postal address. If you are applying overseas, ensure your contact details are internationally accessible (🎯 RECRUITER TIP: add the Philippines country code +63 to your phone number).

Brief Summary

This short section acts as your personal pitch. In 25–30 words, highlight your strongest qualities and the value you can bring to an employer. Keep it professional and tailored to the role you are applying for. For example: “Experienced electrician with 7 years of hands-on expertise in industrial and residential projects, known for reliability, safety compliance, and teamwork.”

Work History

Employers want to see your career journey, so list your work history starting with your most recent job and work backward. For each position, include:
  • The company or organization name
  • Your job title
  • Employment dates
  • Key responsibilities and achievements (limit to 2–3 per job)
Maging specific sa iyong mga naging contributions sa trabaho. Mainam na nakikita sa resume ang mga tools o machines na gingamit mo sa trabaho, lalo na sa mga skilled workers.

Qualifications, Training, and Education

List your highest qualifications first and work down. Include:
  • The name of the qualification
  • The institution where you studied
  • The year of completion
For skilled trades, certifications and training programs are just as important as degrees. If you’ve completed safety, technical, or industry-specific training, make sure to highlight it. Employers in Australia often look for recognized certifications, so list them clearly.

Key Skills

This is where you show what you can do best. Select 5–7 of your most important skills that directly relate to the job you’re applying for. Examples could include:
  • Proficiency in specific machinery or tools
  • Excellent English communication
  • Leadership or team coordination
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and compliance.
  • Keep this section concise but impactful.

References

Employers often ask for references to confirm your skills and character. List at least two people who can vouch for your work ethic and performance. Include their full name, position, organization, and contact details. Always ask for their permission before listing them.

Final Tips

  • Keep your resume clear, concise, and no more than two pages.
  • Use simple fonts and a clean layout—employers prefer easy-to-read resumes.
  • Tailor your resume to each job. Highlight the experience and skills that best fit the role you are applying for.
Ang isang maayos at organisadong resume ang maaring maging ticket mo pa-Australia!

A great resume is your ticket to new opportunities abroad. Take the time to prepare it well as it could be the key that opens the door to your dream job in Australia.
